Oyster Mushroom Saute with T-Bone Steak

I have been looking for ways to utilize the oyster mushrooms I got from the food market and finally decided to go with the basic: saute.

But of course we couldn’t choose one way so my brother and I cooked them 3 ways.

Simple Saute:

  • Oyster mushrooms
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

Clean the smaller shaped mushrooms well, dry them with a paper towel. Put a little olive oil in the pan and add the mushrooms.

Be careful not to crowd the mushrooms, otherwise they will give out their juices and it will turn into a cook instead of saute. Salt them however you want and you’re ready. I can honestly say that among all of the ways we had mushrooms, this was by far the best.

Spicy Red Saute:

  • Oyster mushrooms
  • Cayenne powder
  • Tarragon
  • Onions
  • Pickled Jalapeno peppers
  • Garlic
  • Olive oil
  • Salt & pepper

Cut up bigger mushrooms into large pieces, wash well and dry. Add oil to the pan and the onion. After a while with every minute add the mushroom, garlic, tarragon, Jalapeno and the spices, respectively. Again try not to crowd the mushrooms. And keep the heat of the spice low, you don’t want the spicy hotness of the spices and the pepper over-power the mushrooms.

Cast Iron Saute:

  • Steaks (this part is up to you, whichever type of steak you want it works. We had t-bone and beef rib this time)
  • Oyster mushrooms
  • Tarragon
  • Garlic
  • Olive oil
  • Salt & pepper

Before starting the next type of mushrooms, you need to marinate your steaks. We used basic olive oil, tarragon, salt & pepper. We used the same marinate for the large oyster mushrooms too.

Ok this is more like a grill than saute but still a good way to have your mushrooms with meat. Since we were already having steak, my brother had the whole mushrooms that were relatively bigger and flatter than the rest, marinated with olive oil, tarragon, garlic and salt & pepper and put them directly on the cast iron grill.

Meanwhile you can put the steaks on the grill too. This way both the mushrooms and steak cook with their juices mixed. When the mushrooms are cooked put them on the steaks. This will give them an amazing – AMAZING- taste.

herb butter

Before starting the grill I had some herbs and red pepper mixed and crushed in a mortar with butter. I then put that mixture in a silicone single muffin liner and put it in the freezer. When your steaks are done just take it off the freezer, cut small pieces and put them on slices of lemon. That will give an additional boost to your flavors.

This was a very good treat and a very filling dinner. We didn’t actually need any side dishes but you can utilize any type of side dish you want. I would suggest mash potatoes. Enjoy.
