Jamie’s Crispy Shrimp

I have been watching Jamie’s 30-Minute Meals a lot lately. I get excited when I see recipes that use ingredients I can find and different from what I make everyday. So you may see/have been seeing many of Jamie Oliver’s recipes, beware!

This recipe quickly became one of my two favorite prawn recipe, my other favorite being butter poached.

Ingredients:

  • 4 king prawns
  • Few leaves of mint
  • Half a lemon
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne powder
  • 1 teaspoon sumac
  • Few small pieces of butter
  • Olive oil
  • Salt & pepper

This is really easy. Pre-heat the oven at 200°C. Wash the prawns lightly and put them in an oven pan. Drizzle them with olive oil and put the spices on them. Crush the garlic and add to the pan. With your hand make sure every bit of the prawns are covered with the mixture, make sure to be careful with the shells. Put the butter in small pieces around the pan, with the mint leaves.  Put in the oven and cook for just 10-12 minutes, make sure to monitor them, to not over-cook.

You can squeeze the lemon juice around or just put the sliced lemon in the pan and squeeze at the table, just before serving.

Since prawns are quite expensive and usually hard to find, I used two per person as an appetizer. It was a big hit and I recommend everyone should try it at least once. Trust me that one time will be your regular for a fancy appetizer idea. Enjoy.

This dish doesn’t have different stages of cooking. Just mix everything and bake! Easy as that!

This may be by far the most gourmet looking dish I’ve made. Just make sure the raw spices don’t burn.
