Cacik (Yogurt and Cucumber Salad)

Cacık may be the most basic Turkish dish there is. It is widely known all over Turkey and used as side dish, appetizer or salad with whatever food you’re consuming.

This is just one of the versions of it. Normally a Turkish Cacık would have yogurt, cucumbers, garlic,fresh dill, dried mint, olive oil, salt and would be served in small bowls to be eating with spoons. But this is a quick and easy version that ı made while looking for an easy side dish, I may show you how to make other types in the future.

Ingredients:

  •  1 + 1/2 cup yogurt (unsweetened)
  • 3-4 small cucumbers
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Olive oil
  • Dried mint
  • Oregano
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Sumac
  • Salt

Just whisk the yogurt into a homogeneous form. Add the cucumbers that you cut up to your liking. Crush the garlic finely, since you won’t be cooking it, you don’t want big chunks to be on your spoon. Add olive oil and salt. Mix everything together and decorate with the spices. There you go.

Below is another one I made as a snack. It was pretty yummy I must say. It had

  • Yogurt
  • Cucumbers
  • Garlic
  • Dried mint
  • Fresh dill
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

Since the cucumbers were smaller, this is more suitable to be eaten in a bowl with a spoon. You can eat this as side dish or even as a snack on a hot day. Cacık is very versatile, all you need to do is choose a purpose. Enjoy.
